Jack’s 3rd Birthday

the year I learned who kids birthday parties are really for.

He calls BUZZ LIGHTYEAR buzxzlight (like so fast it’s almost like budlight + I can’t say it like he does)

He’s been telling people for months his motorcycle is broken. He has 2 of them, but they are broken. This is Jonah’s old bike + Jon fixed the tires. After we opened the gift from his big brothers on the front lawn, he went out back, hopped on that little blue motorcycle bike + rode until the sun went down.

things jack loves:

  • Books: Jack would sit on anyone’s lap who will read to him.
  • Cards + Games: I finally invested in some new NERTZ cards (custom from shutterfly)
  • Being called squish – “Jack is your bum cute?” No. Squishy bum.
  • Buzzlight anything + everything. The brothers picked out some jammies + we all picked out a piñata (pronounced pinky yota by the birthday boy) to break with his cousins this weekend.

things jack doesn’t love:

  • brushing his hair
  • that’s honest to goodness the only thing i can think of that he doesn’t love
You know you’re a boy mom when. . . . . .

This was my gift to Jack. I NEED A NEW BUTT BOOK. I should probably be embarrassed? Most households don’t encourage butt’s + farts, or even saying the words, buttuh, well, we laughed our freakin heads off the entire way through it.

Rigg is literally the popsicle king. We were watching old movies of Jack + Rigg had a popsicle in basically every single one. He made these LEGO ones especially for Jack’s special day.

If you have lego obsessed kiddos, snag this fun Lego Popsicle Mold.

Jack is a very very simple, loving boy who is pretty content just hanging out. He’s super chill + always up for adventures. He tells me all day long “I yuv dat mom”.

When Grandma called Jack earlier in the morning – he told her that all he wanted was a “burtday cake with candles.” She came down, met us for lunch at Maddox + most definitely pulled through. Jack devoured that cake. He’ll probably never remember this birthday, but I always will.

The year I learned that birthday party past has been for me, not for them. I mean they love it, but the over-the-top-stress-details, have they ever even noticed? I didn’t throw a party this year, not even close to anything elaborate. I didn’t order anything online or plan any outfits. I didn’t send out invites. We went about our day doing simple things that Jack adores with our dear friends + WE ALLLL HAD THE BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES. Imagine that.

While Jack + I were finishing his brother gift in the front yard, Jon went to fix the tires on our little old motorcycle bike. He’s been telling people (mostly Braedin) that he has 2 motorcycles, but they are broken in the garage. Had I known where Jon went, I would have had the camera on rapid fire when he saw that it was fixed. He hopped right on that thing + rode it until the sun went down.

A stop by the lot after dinner at Mcdonald’s

My heart feels content + proud/embarassed of how many parties over the top I’ve thrown. There’s something truly magical about simplicity. At the end of the day it leaves me even more grateful that I’m trusted to raise these incredible boys with their dad. I love them all, with ALL OF MY HEART.

welcome to 3 years of life, jack boy.

xx, Mom

Denim for the Family

Marks + Spencer is becoming my go to for staple family items. You remember Rigg’s snowsuit? I feel like I’ve told over half of the mountain where to buy it by now. 🙂

The weather has been a dream + we’ve been spending lots of time
at the Castle Park.

Here is the address for those wanting to go explore:
1105 Nicholls Rd, Fruit Heights, UT 84037
Take the trail down below the park + let the kids run freeeeee! I hear it’s absolutely insaaaane in the fall when the trees are exploding with colors.

We finally took Jon + he’s as determined as I am to
re-create this environment in our new backyard.
We made sure to find a lot with lots of overgrown trees + this hideaway makes me giddy!!

women’s jeans | boy’s jeans

I’m a fan of skinny jeans on boys.
The boys seem to agree, because the one time I ordered Jonah some straight (not skinny) jeans, he thought they were girls pants. Hahahha.
Here are a few favorites that we have ordred:

Our Gender Reveal Party

VIDEO: Fielding Films  || FOOD: Kneader’s Bakery

Can you believe we stared at the sealed ultrasound envelop the entire week leading up to the party + didn’t peek once!? I can’t. Talk about some SERIOUS suspense! Thank the Heavens Aubry swooped in + saved the day. She kept our secret on lock down while she managed to fill the box with balloons, stuff all the poppers with confetti + didn’t bat a single eyelash no matter how high the bribes climbed for her to spill the beans early. She made the party happen. Literally! My stomach was full of butterflies the entire party. The fact that I have craved Kneader’s Sugar cookies this entire pregnancy but they didn’t even tempt me at the party really shows where my nerves were at. Ha! WHAT A THRILL!! Jon was certain his mustache would sway the chances for a boy + I was 99.9% sure we were having a girl. Rigg is still set on a baby sister + the first line that came from Jonah’s mouth was “4 boys, 1 mom!!” with the biggest grin on his face. Being surrounded by people that mean so much to us on this special day was absolutely heart filling. A moment I’ll neva eva eva forget! Thank you all for sharing in our excitement.
We are absolutely ecstatic to have another little boy joining our family. You are very very very loved little man! Can’t wait to meet you in July!

Jonah cleans his tee ball bat every day in the bathroom sink. He keeps it in a special place during the week, but he won’t tell me where. He makes sure his hat is hung on the corner bed post + asks if it’s baseball day right when he wakes up. Tee-ball day is pretty much our favorite day of the week. This time we worried about rain all morning, but hadn’t seen any until about 5:15. With the game starting at 5:30, we were a bit heartbroken, but headed over to the field anyways. Miraculously they gave us the green light! This was his third game now + I don’t know what it is, but I still cry every game. My mom pride is through the roof when I see him run passed that home plate with that smile on his face. Or the way Riggins yells his name from the dugout? Or the way he listens to his coach + calls him “coach”. I can hardly take it. Is this how my mom felt with all of us at our games? Must be because her + Grandpa drove down just for the game!! Jonah ran off the pitchers mound in the middle of his game to ask them if they were sleeping over. His cute coach was all “Hey Jonah where are you going?!” He didn’t even blink an eye. They tied his shoes + gave him a quick love. Jonah got his little cleats from them for his 2nd birthday + they are just barely getting too small. Over the weekend we went to find him some new digs, a bag for his bat + some legit tee ball pants. Such a joy to see life through his eyes. Rigg is stoked to get his other ones. Now, how many more minutes until the next game? 🙂

EASTERSNUGGS

Easter came + went so fast this year. We tried our best to soak up family time. We always tend to go home to Logan or up to Heber on holiday’s, but we are making more of an effort to start our own traditions here at home.  Jon + I stayed up late putting little doo-dads into plastic Easter eggs + wrote letters for their bedside to be there when they woke up. The boys are in such fun stages right now. We learned our lesson last year when Jonah was bored to tears after looking for his basket in about 19 seconds. Jon took matters into his own hands + masterminded a scavenger hunt with pictures for Jonah to follow. J soaked it right up. The boys hopped from room to room, clue to clue until they found their baskets. Grammy fixed us a yummy Easter brunch + we watched General Conference together up in Heber City. I am grateful for my family, for my Savior, for my testimony + knowledge of His plan. I know that because of Him, we will be together forever.

Our Homemade Ball Pit

We caught that nasty stomach bug a couple weeks back + were cooped up at home for a few days in a row. It led to some pretty depressing thoughts on how we’re completely doomed this winter. #stircrazytimestwenty Utah probs, I guess. Riggins was down for a nap, Jonah was watching Daniel Tiger on his ipad in the living room + I was pretty desperate for something fun to do with the kids. Something that definitely didn’t require much effort on my end. Remember these plastic balls from Riggin’s first birthday party?! You might already have some lying around, but if not, I’d suggest snagging a bag for the cold winter ahead. They have been saving my sanity lately. Just keep them boxed up until you actually use them. Otherwise they will most likely become your worst enemy during cleanup time. I got bag of balls down from the garage shelf + made a towering pile on top of my bed, shutting the door behind me. The boys had no idea.

A trick that I’ve learned in raising + entertaining our two very active toddlers is the surprise factor. Our boys are easily pleased, but their attention span isn’t the greatest. This is where my surprise theory comes in. I can’t let them in on what I’ve got planned for the day because if they see me setting it up (art project, snack time, movie fort, picnic, ball pit, etc) the excitement pretty much wears off before it’s even ready to go. If you master the set up/planning without them seeing, your activity is that much more thrilling for all of you. Depending on what we’re doing, it helps me to wake up a few minutes earlier + plan things out the night before. Both little gestures that make all the difference on how productive we are during the day. This has helped to keep my kids stay engaged for longer periods of time + I’m telling you, the way their eyes light up on a day like that make any hassle beforehand totally worth it.

When we opened the door later that afternoon to our DIY ball pit, Jonah ran in circles screaming you’re the best mom everrrrr + Riggins, well, he just stared at us like we were crazy. Haaa! He warmed right up in no time. They jumped, flipped, played hot tomato, sorted the colors, jumped some more AND even helped shoot the balls into the bag when we were done. Chalking this day up as a success on my mom chart.
