Dare I say I need sleep even more than the boys need sleep? Is that selfish? Probably, but these kids have energy I can only dream of. Every night for the last 3 years, Jonah has made his way to our bed by morning. Some nights I think it’s the sweetest thing in the world — but the more tired I have become, the more sore my ribs are from being kicked all night + the longer he takes to fall asleep at night, the more I knew something needed to change. That sacred hour or two after all of the boys are asleep is almost sacred in my mental motherhood book. Netflix? Pinterest? Bubble Bath? You name it, I crave it. But it’s nonexistent on nights where he takes two plus hours to fall asleep + I have to (get to) sit by the side of his bed until he’s out cold. But even when he is extra tired + falls asleep quick, he’s in our room by the time the clock strikes midnight. Bless his heart!

I turned to a handful of seasoned mother friends for advice, who let me pick their brains constantly, but NOTHING seemed to work for us. I’m feeling extra dramatic as I write this, but guys, SLEEP IS HUGE! I realize that now more than ever. Haha! I don’t know why I was so relunctant, but I think it’s because I felt like this was my final straw. We knew we were going to transition Rigg to a big boy bed soon, but with him being the champion sleeper in our home (like, the run to bed the minute he sees his bottle being filled with milk champion) I didn’t want it to backlash. We were finally able to find the bunkbeds we wanted + we just went for it!

The night we put up their new beds, we introduced Sleeper Hero to them as well. It comes in this cute little box with a story book that explains how scary it can be sleeping without your parents. It’s no secret Jonah soaks up anything Super Hero, which leaves me convinced this was made for our family. We read the book together, gave hero his own name, “BATMAN” + crossed every one of our fingers as we shut off the lights.

That first morning when Jon woke me up, all the emotions from my first nights as a new mother flooded back. Specifically the one where Jonah slept for five hours straight for the very first time + I jumped awake thinking OH NO, is this real? Did I sleep through the cries? Was I THAT tired? But no! Not this time. We ALL slept through the night + both Jonah + Rigg were STILL snoozing. AND STILL BREATHING! It completely worked! Really —  truly — it worked! Bet you couldn’t guess I cried. Haha, praise the Heavens. This little Hero has helped him sleep through the night every single night since. It has a built in timer that is red when it’s time to stay in bed or go back to sleep + it turns green when it’s time to come find Mom + Dad. GENIUS!
